15 Things That Make My Life Easier, Prettier, and a Little More Fun

Because working smarter and living better shouldn't require a complete personality overhaul or 47 new subscriptions.

TASKA founder's favorite productivity tools and beauty products arranged on a pink desk

Somewhere between managing projects, raising a family, maintaining approximately 900 digital accounts, and trying to have a life, I realized something: I didn't necessarily need to do more. I needed to make the things I was already doing easier.

I also wanted life to feel a little prettier. Because apparently I'm the kind of person who wants an efficient workflow, an aesthetically pleasing candle, and shoes that don't make me question every decision I've ever made.

We contain multitudes.

Welcome to TASKA!

I'm a lifelong learner, a naturally curious person, and someone who genuinely loves connecting people with helpful resources, interesting people, worthwhile experiences, and little discoveries that make life easier or happier.

I've always been the person who finds something useful and immediately thinks, “Oh, I know someone who needs this!”

TASKA is where I get to bring all those discoveries together.

You'll find technology, productivity tips, beauty favorites, creative ideas, helpful resources, and the occasional pop culture reference that reveals exactly which generation raised me.

Everything here falls loosely into three categories:

Work Smarter: Technology, tools, and systems that make everyday life easier.

Live Prettier: Beauty, self-care, and practical little luxuries that make routines more enjoyable.

Create Happier: Ideas, experiences, and discoveries that make life feel more meaningful and fun.

And here's something important: TASKA isn't about buying more things. It's about creating more time and space for the things that matter.

Sometimes that means recommending a product I've purchased repeatedly. Other times, it's a free resource you might already have access to.

Because the best solution isn't always the one with an affiliate link.

Disclosure: This article may contain affiliate links. If you make a qualifying purchase through one of my links, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. I only recommend products and services I genuinely enjoy or clearly identify as something I'm exploring.

Work Smarter: Less Chaos, More Breathing Room

I love a good system.

Not because I want every minute of my life scheduled, but because I'd rather spend less time managing the logistics of living and more time actually enjoying it.

My professional background includes project management, process improvement, and finding ways to make complicated things work more efficiently.

Naturally, some of that enthusiasm follows me home.

1. Google Calendar: Because One Person Shouldn't Have to Remember Everything

Cost: Free

Between school activities, appointments, birthdays, family events, and everything else that somehow ends up on the schedule, keeping everyone coordinated can feel like a part-time job.

A shared Google Calendar is one of my favorite simple solutions.

Instead of having important dates scattered across text messages, emails, and someone's memory, everyone can reference the same calendar.

You can color-code activities, set reminders, and give family members access to add or update events.

My favorite part? It encourages shared responsibility for keeping track of what's happening.

Because being the family calendar, reminder system, and unofficial director of operations was not included in the parenting brochure.

Try this: Create a dedicated family calendar, share it with the appropriate household members, and start by adding recurring commitments and important dates.

You don't need a separate Gmail account for everyone to create a shared calendar.

2. Pinterest: My Digital Home for All Those Ideas

Cost: Free

I love Pinterest, but not just for pretty pictures.

It's an incredibly useful tool for organizing ideas visually.

Whether I'm exploring home projects, planning a celebration, collecting outfit inspiration, researching a new hobby, or saving something I want to revisit, Pinterest gives those ideas somewhere to live.

Instead of trying to remember where I saw something, I can organize it into boards and sections.

The trick is being intentional about how you use it.

Because saving 847 ideas for organizing your house doesn't technically count as organizing your house.

Ask me how I know.

Try this: Create three boards: Ideas to Explore, Projects in Progress, and Ideas I've Actually Used.

That last one is especially satisfying.

3. LastPass: Because My Brain Is Not a Password Database

I have used LastPass for years, and password management is one of those things I never want to go back to doing manually.

Between shopping accounts, subscriptions, business tools, school resources, and everything else requiring a login, remembering individual passwords is simply not how I want to spend my mental energy.

A password manager helps organize login information and makes using unique passwords more manageable.

It's one of those behind-the-scenes tools that isn't particularly glamorous but makes everyday digital life easier.

And while we're here, please don't use the same password for everything.

Your future self will appreciate it.

Worth knowing: Password managers are security tools, so it's important to compare their current security practices, account protections, and features before choosing one. I also recommend enabling multifactor authentication wherever available.

4. Microsoft Planner: Bringing a Little Project Management Into Everyday Life

If there's one thing I've learned from managing projects, it's that complicated tasks become much less intimidating when you can see what needs to happen next.

Microsoft Planner is a tool I've used extensively in my professional work, including building organized workflows for complex, cross-functional projects.

What I appreciate most is the ability to break larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks.

You can organize work into categories, assign responsibilities, track progress, and see what still needs attention.

And you don't need to be managing a corporate initiative to appreciate that approach.

Planning an event? Organizing a home improvement project? Coordinating a volunteer activity?

The same principles apply.

Try this: Create a simple board with three categories: To Do, In Progress, and Done.

Sometimes seeing a task move into the Done column is the little dopamine hit you need.

Basic Planner capabilities are included with eligible Microsoft 365 subscriptions, while certain advanced features require additional licensing.

5. Canva: Making Ideas Look as Good as They Sound

I love technology that makes creativity more accessible, and Canva is one of my favorite examples.

Whether you're creating a presentation, organizing visual ideas, designing invitations, making social media graphics, or putting together something for a personal project, Canva makes it easier to bring an idea to life.

You don't have to be a professional graphic designer to create something polished.

And as someone who appreciates beautiful things, I particularly enjoy being able to customize colors, fonts, and layouts.

Does it need to be pink?

Not necessarily.

Will I check whether pink is an option?

Absolutely.

Try this: Start with Canva's free tools and an existing template. Customize it for a real project before deciding whether you need any paid features.

Live Prettier: Practicality Can Still Be Fabulous

I love beauty products, pretty packaging, and anything that makes an everyday routine feel a little more luxurious.

But I'm also practical.

If something takes too much time, creates unnecessary work, or doesn't deliver results, the pretty packaging alone won't keep it in my routine.

My philosophy?

Function first. Fabulous if possible. Make it pink.

6. IGK Haircare: Helping Us Manage Different Hairstyles and the Same Humidity

My daughter and I have similar hair textures, but our preferred styles are very different.

Fortunately, we've found several IGK products that work well for our hair.

A few favorites include:

IGK Antisocial Bond-Building Repair Dry Hair Mask: I love having an overnight treatment option that doesn't require adding another traditional wash-out step.

IGK Good Behavior Smoothing Heat Protectant Blowout Balm: One of the products I enjoy incorporating into my styling routine.

IGK Anti-Humidity Serum: An especially appreciated addition when you live in Virginia, where the humidity apparently considers itself a participant in every hairstyle.

I like being able to rely on a brand that works for both of us, even when we're going for completely different looks.

Because sharing beauty products is wonderful.

Sharing the exact same hairstyle? Apparently not our current era.

7. Shark Glossi: The Hair Tool That Gave Me Back My Wash Day

I've been a Shark fan for years.

I own both an upright vacuum and a robot vacuum from the brand, so when I discovered that Shark also made beauty tools, I was intrigued.

That's what initially led me to try the Shark Glossi wet-to-dry styling brush.

And I'm happy to report that it lived up to my expectations.

It drastically reduced the time I spend on wash day.

For someone who appreciates efficiency as much as a good hairstyle, that's a major win.

I also love that the tool has a filter you can clean. It's a thoughtful maintenance feature that I hadn't personally encountered in a hair tool before.

And did I mention it comes in pink?

Sometimes the universe really does understand the assignment.

What I appreciate most is that it makes an existing routine easier without requiring me to sacrifice the results I want.

That's my favorite kind of beauty discovery.

8. TYMO: Two Generations, Two Hairstyles, One Glossy Finish

My daughter and I both enjoy TYMO styling tools, although our preferred looks could not be more different.

She's currently embracing the scene-kid aesthetic that takes me straight back to my high school years.

Meanwhile, I enjoy curls that remind me of my former pageant-kid days.

Apparently, our household has decided that subtle hair is optional.

We use the TYMO straightener and curler for different styles, but what I appreciate about both is the glossy finish they give our hair.

I also love the beautiful pink color option.

Because if a styling tool works beautifully and comes in a shade of pink, it's already speaking my language.

Rather than recommending the tools separately, I wanted to include TYMO as one brand-level favorite because both products have earned their place in our styling routines.

9. Glamnetic: Pretty Nails Without Rearranging My Entire Schedule

I love having polished nails.

What I don't always love is the time commitment involved in maintaining them.

That's one reason Glamnetic press-on nails have become such a useful part of my beauty routine.

I appreciate being able to get a finished look without having to schedule an appointment every time I want a change.

Glamnetic offers a variety of styles, and I like being able to choose something that suits my mood or occasion.

I also use Glamnetic's nail glue, so I prefer thinking of the nails and glue together as part of one routine.

It's a practical beauty solution that gives me more flexibility.

And I think we can all appreciate a manicure that doesn't require coordinating three calendars and a small miracle.

10. COSY ISLAND: My Return to Wearing Heels

There was a time when I loved wearing heels.

Then, somewhere along the way, comfort became a much bigger priority, and I went years without wearing them regularly.

Enter COSY ISLAND.

These shoes have made wearing heels feel comfortable again for me, and I genuinely appreciate the combination of practicality and style.

They come in beautiful colors, including playful options and sophisticated styles that work well for the office.

I love them enough that I always keep a pair with me.

And here's a little elder-millennial flashback: Remember those old commercials featuring women playing basketball in pumps?

That's the kind of comfort those commercials made us dream about.

I'm not planning to join the WNBA in heels anytime soon, but I appreciate shoes that let me enjoy dressing up without immediately regretting it.

I was also incredibly impressed by COSY ISLAND's customer service and return experience.

That matters to me. A good product is wonderful, but a good overall customer experience makes me much more likely to return to a brand.

Create Happier: Because Life Is Meant to Be Enjoyed

Here's where things get especially fun.

I'm naturally curious, and I love discovering things that make everyday experiences more enjoyable.

Sometimes that's a beautiful fragrance. Sometimes it's a great book, a concert, or an unexpected discovery at Marshalls.

Not everything that makes us happy needs to be productive.

Sometimes it's enough that it makes us smile.

11. Flower Knows: Because Sometimes Pretty Things Are the Point

Does Flower Knows technically belong under Live Prettier?

Absolutely.

But I think it belongs under Create Happier, too.

The brand's whimsical packaging and imaginative collections make cosmetics feel like little works of art.

And as someone who appreciates beautiful design, I find that incredibly appealing.

I also love that the products can make thoughtful gifts for people who appreciate beauty, creativity, and a little fantasy.

The collections are so charming that I'm looking forward to exploring even more of them.

I also appreciate the brand's cruelty-free positioning, since I prefer cruelty-free beauty products whenever possible.

Do I need every beautiful collection?

No.

Can I appreciate the artistry and thoughtfully choose the pieces I'll actually use?

Absolutely.

Because loving pretty things and practicing intentional consumption are not mutually exclusive.

12. Kitsch Hair Perfumes & MicroPerfumes: A Little Happiness in a Bottle

I love fragrance.

Home fragrances, personal fragrances, hair perfumes. I appreciate the way a beautiful scent can change the atmosphere of an ordinary moment.

Kitsch hair perfumes are one of my favorite ways to incorporate fragrance into my beauty routine. There's something lovely about adding a scent you enjoy as a finishing touch.

I'm also interested in MicroPerfumes, which offers samples and travel sizes of designer fragrances.

I particularly appreciate the idea of exploring a fragrance before committing to an expensive full-size bottle.

Because spending hundreds of dollars on a perfume only to discover that you don't actually love wearing it is not the kind of personal growth I'm pursuing.

And unlike a monthly subscription, purchasing individual samples lets you explore fragrances on your own schedule.

The goal isn't to collect every perfume that catches your attention. It's to discover the ones you genuinely love.

A little curiosity, a little luxury, and a lot less buyer's remorse.

13. Loop Earplugs: Protecting My Hearing Without Giving Up Live Music

I love live music and events.

I'm also a former DJ, which means I spent plenty of time around loud music before I fully appreciated the importance of protecting my hearing.

That makes hearing protection particularly important to me now.

Loop earplugs have become one of my favorite accessories for enjoying loud events while being more mindful of my hearing.

And because I love beautiful, functional things, I appreciate that Loop offers different colors and limited-edition collections.

I even purchased a Coachella edition for my daughter's first concert.

Now that I've developed a newfound obsession with K-pop, I have even more motivation to protect my hearing for future live performances.

Apparently my elder-millennial era includes discovering K-pop, planning concerts, and finally taking hearing protection seriously.

Character development.

Of course, earplugs reduce sound exposure rather than reverse existing hearing damage, and proper fit and protection matter.

But I love finding ways to continue enjoying experiences that make me happy while taking better care of myself.

14. Kindle: My Personalized, Portable Library

My Kindle is one of my favorite ways to make room for something I genuinely enjoy: reading.

I love being able to toss it into my bag and have a variety of books and genres available wherever I go.

One moment, I might be reading something about personal development or learning a new skill.

The next, I'm emotionally invested in fictional characters making increasingly questionable decisions.

Range.

I also love the ability to personalize a Kindle case with stickers, inserts, or other little touches that reflect your personality.

Because even my portable library deserves an outfit.

Another feature I appreciate is the flexibility of how you can access books.

Kindle Unlimited is an optional paid subscription that lets readers explore a selection of eligible books and authors.

But here's something I especially want more people to know:

Your local public library may offer free Kindle-compatible ebooks through Libby.

With a library card from a participating library, you can borrow eligible ebooks and send them to your Kindle in the United States.

Not every library book supports Kindle, but it's a wonderful resource worth exploring.

And you don't need to purchase every book that catches your interest.

For me, that's what makes Kindle so useful: convenience, discovery, portability, and the freedom to explore different interests.

15. Sand + Paws: A Marshalls Discovery That Became a Favorite

I love a beautiful home fragrance.

I also love dogs.

So perhaps it was inevitable that Sand + Paws would catch my attention.

I'm a proud dog mom to Rocco, my Cairn Terrier, and Dobby, our rescue pup of somewhat mysterious ancestry.

Google Lens suspects Dobby might be a Portuguese Podengo, although we're still treating that as an educated guess.

And yes, he's named after Dobby the house-elf from Harry Potter.

No, we don't make him do the laundry.

Unfortunately.

I originally discovered Sand + Paws while browsing Marshalls.

The dog-inspired branding caught my attention, but the fragrances are what made me a repeat customer.

I enjoyed the brand enough that I eventually started purchasing directly from the company.

One fragrance I particularly enjoy is Harvest Wreath, with its warm autumn character.

I appreciate seasonal scents that feel welcoming without making the entire house smell like a pumpkin spice latte exploded in the living room.

And there's something especially satisfying about discovering a brand organically, trying it, loving it, and realizing it deserves a permanent place in your home.

For me, home fragrance is one of those small details that makes everyday life feel a little more special.

It's also a fitting way to end this list.

Because after all the planning, organizing, getting ready, exploring, and doing, sometimes happiness is simply being home with your favorite scent, a good book, and a couple of dogs nearby.

A Little More Time for What Matters

If there's one thing I hope you take away from this list, it's that making life better doesn't necessarily mean adding more to it.

Sometimes it means finding a tool that saves you time.

Sometimes it means discovering a free resource you didn't know existed.

Sometimes it means choosing something beautiful that also happens to be genuinely useful.

And sometimes it means giving yourself permission to enjoy the little things.

I don't believe we need to buy our way into a better life.

I believe in being curious, learning what works, sharing what helps, and creating more time and space for the people, experiences, and possibilities that matter.

That's what TASKA is all about.

Work smarter. Live prettier. Create happier.

And whenever possible, make it pink.

Let's Stay Connected

If you enjoy discovering practical tools, beautiful little luxuries, useful resources, and ideas for making everyday life easier, I'd love for you to stick around.

The TASKA Edit is my monthly letter sharing favorite discoveries, helpful ideas, and the occasional tangent about something I probably didn't need to research quite so thoroughly.

Think of it as a note from a curious friend who loves finding good things and sharing them.

Because life is better when we share what we've learned.

And there's always something new worth discovering.
